`Palm oil export plan must focus on processing ventures' -- Malaysia to discuss tariff issue with India, China
PALM oil industry leaders in Malaysia should step up their efforts to forge smart partnerships on a mutually beneficial basis and enter into strategic alliances for joint venture palm oil processing operations in major consuming markets such as India, Ba ngladesh, Pakistan and South Africa, said Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, Minister of Primary Industries. He was delivering the key note address at the 11th `Palm and lauric oils price outlook forum 2000-2001' here.

COMMEX offers CPO, KLIBOR futures on Net
IN a bid to deepen and expand the reach of the market, the Commodity and Monetary Exchange of Malaysia (COMMEX) has launched a new service which, in its first phase, comprises dissemination of real-time market information on the crude palm oil (CPO) futu res and the three-month Kuala Lumpur Interbank Offered Rate (KLIBOR) futures on the Internet.

Assam tea industry sees big threat from imports
THE Chairman of Tea Association of India (TAI), Assam Branch, Mr. L.K. Sharma, in a release stated that the tea scenario was in for a change as the industry was being thrown open to global competition. The country would now be importing 15 million kg of tea every year from Sri Lanka at half the basic import duty of 15 per cent.
