THE Inter-Governmental Preparatory Committee for the Third UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-III) has resolved to choose sustainable development of the world's poorest countries as its subject after approving the provisional agenda and format for the Conference.

THE annual rate of inflation measured in terms of the wholesale price index (WPI) on a point-to-point basis moved up to 6.12 per cent for the latest recorded week ended July 15. It had slipped below six per cent and remained static at 5.92 per cent in th e preceding two weeks after drifting down over the past few weeks. Thus, the downward trend has been reversed during the latest week.
