Farmers to protest `free market policies'
EVEN as the news of the suicide of a `debt-ridden farmer' in Hebri has started spreading all over the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, the Belthangady taluk committee of the Parisarasaktha Krishikara Vedike (Karnataka) plans to hold a rally in Bel thangady on November 22 protesting against the Centre's `free market policies'.

Indonesia moves worry global rice trade
THE international rice market facing soft prices for several months and hoping for an improvement in trade volumes next year is sure to feel disappointed over the reported statement of Indonesia's Government agency - Bulog - that the country does not int end to import rice in 2001 because of abundant stocks.

Cocoa output may be below target
COCOA production is expected to be far below the targeted 15,000 tonnes during 2000-01 on lack of enthusiasm among the farmers as well as the implementing agencies of developmental programmes.

Growers, buyers differ on pepper supply situation
PEPPER prices have crashed causing a great concern to the producers. In the New York market, spot prices for pepper which ruled around $2.95 a pound in the beginning of the year, have now fallen to $1.70. Pepper for December delivery is priced at $1.60 a nd for January to March, 2001 further down at $1.55.
