First iron ore shipment from Orissa mines

MUMBAI: Sesa Goa informed that it completed the first iron ore shipment from its Orissa mines on December 5, with the vessel `MV Pataliputra' loading 26,000 tonnes at Haldia and 20,000 tonnes at Paradip, before sailing out for China.

The company's new Orissa mining operation had the capacity to produce up to three million tonnes per annum, with ability to expand if required. Exports from the east coasts - through Chennai, Haldia and Paradip - position the company well to offer custom ers, particularly those in Asia, year-round supply of Indian iron ore, Mr C.M. Brown, Managing Director, Sesa Goa, said.

Sesa already exports six million tonnes annually from Goa and Karnataka. -- Our Bureau
