Alcatel, Tata Telecom bag $12-m order
NEW DELHI: Alcatel and Tata Telecom have won a $12-million contract from Birla AT&T for the expansion of its mobile backbone network in Maharastra and Gujarat.
Alcatel will supply state-of-art microwave radio equipment and add drop multiplexers (ADMs) based on Synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) technology.
These feature will help increase the existing capacity of the network by about four times and provide Indian users with advanced telecommunications services.
The installation of these features would be completed by the middle of 2001. As part of the agreement Alcatel will also provide its network management system, a platform facilitating continuity of transmission along the backbone.
The Network Systems Division of Tata Telecom on the other hand will supply the necessary local equipment like antennas and other installation material. -- Our Bureau
