AP tobacco farmers seek early fixing of crop size
THE Tobacco Board should finalise the crop size in Andhra Pradesh in May itself for the coming season and register the farmers, as otherwise farmers would face difficulties if the board sticks to its usual practice of fixing the crop size in August or Se ptember, the Andhra Pradesh Virginia Tobacco Growers' Association has demanded.

THE Coir Board, as part of its efforts to promote the sale of coir and coir products and to provide financial support to eligible cooperatives, has introduced market development assistance (MDA) in lieu of the rebate scheme.

Iraq rejects Indian wheat -- Consignments found to be of poor quality
IRAQ has rejected two consignments of wheat shipments from the country on grounds of bad quality. Trade circles have confirmed that about 23,500 tonnes of wheat shipped from Mumbai port per Al Hamid (8,400 tonnes) and from Kandla port per Kuan Yin (15,10 0 tonnes) last month were rejected by the Iraqi Government inspection agency.

KCPMC develops new cardamom varieties
THE Kerala Cardamom Processing and Marketing Company (KCPMC) has developed three new varieties of cardamom - Elarani I, II and III - at its research centre in Thekkady. The clones for this have been identified from selected mother clones from an estate a t Kadamkuzhy in Idukki district.

DESPITE the downward revision of the credit reserve ration, stagnancy in the cotton trade continued due to lack of demand for yarn and finished goods. Lint prices, however, continued to remain steady during the last fortnight.
