Economy
Smooth operators
This refers to the analysis, `Babus as negotiators', (Business Line, April 25), on the way the country is being short-changed in every negotiating round because of the incompetence of bureaucrats.

Beyond Budget
`Nod for the budget' (Business Line, April 27) was a relief, but it is time to look beyond the ``nod''. We have resorted to building high tariff walls against imports both in the matter of industrial goods such as Chinese two-wheelers, and agricultural c ommodities to protect domestic producers.

Stocks
SEBI order
The order barring Sterlite, Videocon and BPL from accessing the capital market is a sign of SEBI's highhandedness. The right to carry on trade and profession is one of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution under Section 19 (g) of the Righ ts to Freedom. It says: ``All citizens shall have the right to practise any profession, or to carry on any occupation, trade or business''.
