CTCs dearer at Kochi auction

A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the quantity of 1,028,000 kg on offer in the dust category, good liquoring well made CTCs were irregular and dearer by Re 1 to Rs 3. Orthodox highgrown dusts were easier by around Rs 3 and mediums were also easier by Rs 2-3.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 48-73, medium CTC realised Rs 40-45, while poorer CTC were quoted Rs 25-32. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 62-85, medium realised Rs 22-27. Secondaries and residuals were quoted Rs 18-20 and Rs 15-18 respectively.

The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 647,000 kg. Orthodox medium brokens steady to firm, while medium Fannings barely steady to tending easier. Highgrown brokens and fannings tended to ease, while good medium s maller CTCs were steady to irregularly dearer.

CIS exporters were selective while other exporter were active on orthodox grades. CTCs witnessed only fair demand from exporters. Upcountry buyers lent useful support.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 48-60, medium orthodox realised Rs 40-55 and plain orthodox were quoted Rs 33-38. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 47-53, medium CTC realised Rs 36-41.

In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD-CL fetched the best prices of Rs 85 followed by Mayura RD at Rs 76.50. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP realised the best prices of Rs 95 followed by Welbeck OP at Rs 78.50.
