New Vogue in town
Santhosh Malliah
There is a new buzz getting around in corporate Chennai these days. `New Vogue', the new dance form has corporate Chennai making Latino moves to the distinct beats of the classical Indian percussion, the tabla. New Vogue is being pioneered by
the Hot Shoe Dance Company, Chennai's premier dance institution. ``In fact, our aim is to enable the body to be supple and hard as well to suit the beats of the tabla,'' says Vardon Jeffery, Director of the company.
So far, this dance form has been adapted only in the company's premier dance productions. However, New Vogue is currently being offered as a structured course for corporate executives and the like throughout its learning centres in the city. Th
ough the combination might sound strange this new dance form has diverse groups tuning into its beat.
The Hot Shoe Dance Company operates from three upmarket studios and has a current strength of 270 students. Beyond perfecting the nuances of New Vogue, the company is currently focused on performing for corporate launches and events.
`New Vogue' is distinct, in its musical ethnicity, and vivacious in its mellifluous Latino movements. Latino dance is known for its smooth gliding movements, while the tabla is known for its distinct beats. It is in fact this combination that ma
kes this dance form a unique one. The New Vogue novelty, according to the city's teenage crowd is finding more and more adherents to its distinctively off-beat style.
