New RBI Deputy Governors take charge

MUMBAI, July 1
MR Vepa Kamesam and Mr G.P. Muniappan took charge as Deputy Governors of the Reserve Bank of India effective July 1.
Mr Kamesam as well as Mr Muniappan will hold charge for two years or till they attain the age of 62, whichever is earlier, a RBI press release said.
Dr Y.V. Reddy has been reappointed Deputy Governor with effect from September 1, 2001.
Mr Kamesam will look after the Exchange Control Department, the Department of Currency Management, the Department of Information Technology, the Rural Planning and Credit Department, the Industrial and Export Credit Department, the Department of Adminis
tration and Personnel Department, the Human Resources Development Department, the Central Security Cell, the Inspection and Premises Department.
Prior to this appointment, Mr Kamesam was Managing Director, State Bank of India in charge of National Banking Group.
Mr Muniappan will look after the Department of Banking Operations and Development, the Department of Banking Supervision, the Financial Institutions Division, the Urban Banks Development, the Department of Non-Banking Supervision, the Department of Finan
cial Companies, the Legal Department and Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation.
Dr Reddy will look after the Department of Economic Analysis and Policy, the Department of Statistical Analysis and Computer Services, the Monetary Policy Department, the Internal Debt Management Cell, the Department of External Investments and Operation
s, the Department of Government and Bank Accounts, the Department of Expenditure and Budgetary Control, the Secretary's Department and Inter-departmental Co-ordinations (including JPC matters).
