Politics
Gen Musharraf's visit
There have been numerous views expressed on the meeting between Gen Pervez Musharraf and Mr A. B. Vajpayee, expected to take place in July. Since the Partition and other disputes, the problems between India and Pakistan could not be resolved because both countries have been stubborn in their views.

Political system
In the article `Retribution or a sign of desperation' (Business Line, July 1), a vital point has been made: If some checks and audits are incorporated in our political system, no violation of constitutional law could recur as witnessed in the arrest of M r M. Karunanidhi. The incarceration of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Centre recalling the State's Governor, Ms Fatima Beevi, has put the people of Tamil Nadu in a fix.

States
Kerala's economic policy
Though the previous LDF government in Kerala was acclaimed for its decentralised planning and implementation, its `closed-door' economic policy landed it in a financial crisis and consequent defeat in the Assembly election.
