Coir Board venture with IPITI

KOTTAYAM: Coir Board will implement a collaborative research project with Indian Plywood Industries and Training Institute (IPITI), Bangalore to develop a commercially viable technology for moulded tray from coir non-woven felt.

Being a cottage industry, the project is expected to provide employment to rural population with comparatively low investment. The cost of the project is shared by the Coir Board and IPITI.

Coir Board also implemented several programmes for improving the quality of coir yarn and coir products. Lack of adequate skill in using motorised ratts stood in the way of spinning coir yarn of required quality in certain spinning areas. -- Our Bureau
