A COUPLE of years ago, an Harvard Business Review article, defined Emotional Intelligence as a factor with the following five components. Self-awareness which is the ability to recognise and understand one's own moods, emotions, drives and their effects on others, coupled with self-confidence, self-assessment, a self-deprecating sense of humour and self-regulation. The ability to control or redirect disruptive moods and impulses and the propensity to suspend judgement to think before acting are also cru cial.
