Corsa Sport hits market

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Sept. 17

CLOSE on the heels of its recently launched and hugely-successful Opel Swing, General Motors India Ltd on Monday launched a spruced up version of the Opel Corsa, called the `1.4 GLS Sport', pepping it with more features.

The new variant, priced at Rs 6.18 lakh in Delhi showrooms, is pitched in direct competition against similar offerings such as the Ford Ikon 1.6 Zxi and the Hyundai Accent 1.5 GLS.

Corsa sport has features such as chrome-plated alloy wheels, decklid spoiler, full-length body side graphics, body side skirts, body-coloured decklid garnish, additional high-mounted stop-lamp and the option of a customised floor mat.

The vehicle also has power steering and power windows, central locking and split-folding seats.

Mr Aditya Vij, President and Managing Director of GM India, said in a statement that the launch of the new car was in response to the ``customer feedback on the need for a younger, sportier version of the Corsa 1.4 GLS''.

GM India, a fully-owned subsidiary of the US General Motors Corp, makes the Opel Corsa and the Opel Astra cars in India.

It recently added the Swing as a variant on the Corsa platform and is awaiting the Government permission to import and sell the Opel Vectra luxury car here.
