Hero Honda sales up 10% in March

NEW DELHI: The country's largest two-wheeler maker, Hero Honda, on Wednesday said it has reported a 10 per cent increase in sales in March at 3,53,342 units as against 3,20,594 units the same month last year.

Total sales for the financial year 2008-09 stood at 37,22,000 units as against 33,37,142 units the previous year, a growth of 12 per cent, Hero Honda said. The company said with the performance in the fiscal year 2008-09 it now commands at share of over 57 per cent in the over 75,00,000-units domestic market.

“An unprecedented share of over 57 per cent in the domestic motorcycle market particularly when the industry has been witnessing a massive slowdown on account of the impact of recessionary trends across the globe. The credit squeeze and the uncertainty o ver interest rates in the country is reflective of the strong fundamentals of the company,” Hero Honda Motors Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Pawan Munjal said.

He said the firm would continue expanding its two-wheeler customer base by exploring markets across geographies - rural as well as urban - and across customer segments.

In the last fiscal (2008-09), the company had launched various new models across segments including, Hunk, CBZ X-Treme in the 150 cc segment and new variants of Passion, Splendor NXG along with refreshed models of its scooter Pleasure. - PTI
