Corporate RIL seeks textile related-patents NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries (RIL) is seeking two patents related to the textile industry. RIL, which is engaged in the textile business apart from petroleum, has approached the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks for a process pate nt to make thermoplastic polyester. RIL filed an application in this regard in March this year and the approving authorities have published the claims made by the company in their latest Patent Office Journal, giving public notice. The present invention is a process to make thermoplastic polyester. Developed at the Reliance Technology Centre, Raigarh, this process seems to give the firm an edge in textile production. According to the company, the polyester formed by this process r esults in an increased rate of solid state polymerisation and a reduced rate of polymer crystalisability Thermoplastic polyester is used basically in textile manufacturing. Further, the largest business house of India has sought another patent for an invention called 'novel adducts as branching agents for condensation polymer and method for production of same'. Novel adducts are used as branching agents for condensation pol ymers, the company said. RIL's manufacturing division at Naroda, Ahmedabad, is one of the largest and most modern textile complexes in the world.
