BHEL bags Rs 2,900-cr order from Aravali Power

NEW DELHI: Public sector engineering firm Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) on Thursday said that it has bagged a Rs 2,900-crore contract for supply of equipment for Aravali Power Company's upcoming Jhajjar Super Thermal Power Project in Haryana. The order from Aravali Power Company Pvt Ltd (APCPL), a joint venture of NTPC Ltd, Indraprastha Power Generation Co Ltd and Haryana Power Generation Co Ltd, has been won under international competitive bidding process, a BHEL release said.

The Jhajjar plant involves three units of 500 MW each and would add 36 million units of power every day to Delhi and Haryana Grids after the commissioning. The power from the first unit will also be used for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi in 2010, it added.

This is the highest value boiler and turbine generator package contract for a single project ever received by BHE.

BHEL said it has so far won orders for 58 thermal sets of 500 MW capacity, of which 31 have been commissioned. It has embarked on an Rs 3,200-crore expansion plan to enhance capacity to 15,000 MW per annum by 2010 from the current 6,000 MW. - PTI
