TVS Motors launches CNG auto in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: TVS Motors on Thursday launched the CNG version of its passenger autorickshaw -- TVS King -- here after making an entry into the three-wheeler market with the petrol/LPG version of the three-wheeler in March earlier this year.

The TVS King comes with 200 cc two stroke low friction engine, electric start, twin head lamps, futuristic design with combination of power mileage, company officials said.

“An autorickshaw has become an integral part of modern day India, without which transportation, especially in urban areas, is unthinkable. We have designed the TVS King keeping in mind the comfort of both, the passenger and the driver,'' TVS Motors vice- president (sales) K Srinivasan said.

“The three-wheeler will also come with auto-drivers' family welfare programme which includes personal accident and medical cover of the driver and his family,'' Mr Srinivasan said. The company will be launching only the CNG two-stroke version in Gujarat in the initial phase, later it also plans to include the diesel and four-stroke versions.

According to company officials, the TVS King will be available initially in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Vapi and Rajkot.

The TVS Motors have invested Rs 120 crore for the three-wheeler manufacturing unit in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, which has a capacity of one lakh units per annum. - PTI
