REI Agro plans to reach down south

CHANDIGARH: After its 'successful' foray into the retail business under the brand name '6Ten' in North India, the REI Agro - a basmati rice processing and marketing company - has decided to move towards western and southern parts of the country.

Making an announcement on one year of completion of its retail business in Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, Mr Rasheed Khan, General Manager - Punjab, REI said today said that the company had planned to open retail stores in Gujarat and Mumba i and some parts of south in the next fiscal.

He said that the company is likely to invest a sum of Rs 40 crore on retail business in 2008-09 in west and southern India.

He said that the company had 355 stores operating 'successfully' in Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.

"The company intend to open additional 180 stores in the next fiscal in the North," he asserted while adding that the total investment to be made in retail business by the company in the North in the next fiscal will be to the tune of Rs 60 crore.

Commenting upon the one-year completion of company's retail business, he said it was "very successful" and the people's response was "excellent" towards the stores owned by the firm.

The company was incorporated in 1994 with an integrated processor from paddy procurement to drying, de-husking, milling, polishing, colour sorting, grading, packing and distribution and retailing business. - PTI
