Ashok Leyland-Nissan JV signs MoU with TN government

Chennai: Ashok Leyland and Japanese automobile major Nissan on Monday signed an agreement with the state government for setting up a manufacturing facility here to roll out 1.90 lakh light-range vehicles.

Leyland also plans to set up a heavy vehicle factory with a capacity of one lakh vehicles per year. A Memorandum of Understanding for these projects, with an investment of Rs 1,450 crore was signed by these companies with the Tamil Nadu government.

These projects would come come up at Ennore and Hosur, where Leyland already has units and at Pillaipakkam in Kancheepuram district, providing direct employment to 4,500 people and 13,500 indirect employment, an official press release said.

The MOU was signed by Tamil Nadu Principal Secretary (Industries),Mr M F Farooki, Ashok Leyland Managing Director, Mr R Seshasayee and Nissan Vice President, Mr Andrew Balmer. - PTI
