Sensex surges 614 points, Nifty breaches 4,100 mark

MUMBAI: The BSE benchmark Sensex rose sharply on Wednesday on funds buying in heavy-weight stocks, led by realty and power sectors.

The Sensex rose 614.61 points and closed at 13,964.26. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange's index Nifty regained 4,100 level by gaining 168.55 points to 4,157.10.

Marketmen said easing political tension and strong global markets influenced the trading sentiments. They said the Hong Kong market jumped higher following overnight rally on the US markets.

Major gainers, which supported the Sensex were Reliance, Reliance Infra, RCom, ONGC, Larsen and Toubro, BHEL, Grasim Industries, L&T, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, Infosys Technologies, TCS and Maruti. - PTI
