Ministry okays NIXI hub in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has given nod to set up hub of National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) in Ahmedabad, a press release issued from the Gujarat Government said here on Saturday.

“Ahmedabad becomes the seventh city in the country that is getting the hubs of national internet exchange,” the release said.

It added, “The union government has already approved such hubs for Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai while it has given approval to Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Banglore in the present round.” In Ahmedabad, the hub has already become operational at GNFC info tower here.

The NIXI hub would restrict the wastage of bandwidth in local traffic, which would have impact on the economy in foreign exchange and it will be very beneficial for internet services providers in the state as it would reduce the bandwidth expenses, the g overnment release said. - PTI
