Tea prices weak on poor demand

COONOOR: Tea prices ruled lower at the weekly auction held here on October 23 and 24. Orthodox leaf variety met with very weak demand with the whole leaf grades fetching substantially lower prices with a large quantity of teas being outlisted due to w ant of bids. Brokens also were lower by Rs.5 to Rs 8 a kg and suffered withdrawals. Secondaries and fannings were also lower by Rs.2 to Rs 3. CTC Leaf opened to a weak demand.

The plainer teas saw subdued demand with a quantum of teas being outlisted due to want of bids. Orthodox dust and primary dusts met with good demand at firm to occasionally bearer levels while leafy secondaries and fannings met with fair demand at low er levels by Rs.3 to Rs 4 over last. CTC dust fair demand was witnessed on the bright liquoring teas with levels declining by Rs.3 to Rs 4. The better medium and medium sorts declined by Rs.2 and Rs 3. – PTI
