Mulford meets Prime Minister

NEW DELHI: The US Ambassador to India Mr David C Mulford on Thursday met the Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh to discuss the progress on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Mr Mulford had a meeting with Prime Minister at his residence in the morning hours after Mr Singh returned from his three-day visit to Japan.

Later, Mr Mulford drove down to the South Block and had a meeting with senior officials at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Mr Mulford had yesterday met the envoys of member states of the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) here and sought their support for the nuclear accord.

Mr Mulford impressed upon the diplomats that their countries should back the deal as it was in the interest of nuclear non-proliferation system.

The US President George Mr W Bush and the Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh had yesterday discussed the progress on the nuclear deal when they met on the sidelines of the G-8 meet in Japan. - PTI
