Pawar meets Karat, discusses nuclear deal

NEW DELHI: The CPI (M) leader, Mr Prakash Karat on Friday met the Agriculture Minister and NCP chief, Mr Sharad Pawar and discussed the latest situation arising out of government's attempts to push the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Mr Pawar, who is of the opinion that the concerns of the Left should be kept in mind before taking a final decision on the issue, apprised Mr Karat of government's views on the issue.

The CPI(M) General Secretary is understood to have told Mr Pawar that the government is safe till it does not take any further steps on the nuclear deal. The NCP chief had an hour-long discussion on the situation arising out of the nuclear deal with the External Affairs Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday. - PTI
