The Hindu Business Line : TCS bags project from Andhra govt

MUMBAI: IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has bagged the largest State Wide Area Network (SWAN) project from the Andhra Pradesh Government on a five-year build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model.

The Mumbai-headquartered software giant is already implementing the project in Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Bihar, a release said here today.

SWAN would enable the Andhra Pradesh Government to start and run various e-governance projects and citizen services. It would bring about significant efficiencies in G2G (government to government) and G2C (govt to citizen) services. The project would be rolled out in 12 months and TCS will then maintain it for five years.

“Andhra Pradesh has always taken lead in implementing such projects to improve Government functioning. This project is another initiative to take a wide array of Government services to the common man in the remote areas, IT Secretary and Andhra Pradesh T echnology Services Chairman Mr Sameer Sharma said.

On implementation, Government offices in 1,088 mandals and 23 district headquarters in Andhra Pradesh would have video conferencing facility and can communicate with each other over VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) phones, the release said. - PTI
