Police teargas demonstrators at Singur

SINGUR: Police fired teargas shells on villagers demanding jobs at Tata Motors small car project here shortly after the arrival of company managing director Mr Ravi Kant today.

After arriving here, Mr Kant went straight inside the project site to discuss the progress of work with senior officials, company sources said.

About 100 villagers, whose lands were acquired for the project, gathered near the boundary wall at Khaserbheri-Monsatala and began demonstrations.

They pelted stones when the police intervened. The police, who were deployed inside, fired teargas shells to break up the demonstration, according to eyewitness account. - PTI
