Retrieving data

I stored an Excel file in a floppy six months ago named home. Now, when I try to open it, a dialogue box with this message appears: ``home.xls cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only or you may be trying to access read-only location. Or, the server on which the document is stored may not be responding.''

What do I do about this? The data stored is important. When I double click on the floppy, the home .xls appears but when I double click it on Excel, it opens with this message. Please suggest a solution.

Radhakrishnan

The message -- file may be read-only or you may be trying to access read-only location -- appears when the file is write-protected. And secondly, it may be that you have copied the shortcut of that Excel file in the floppy by mistake and that is why you are not able to open it.
