Formating figures

I would like to know whether it is possible in Excel 97 to format figures according to the Indian system of using the comma separator. For instance, in MS Excel 97, when the comma separator check box is activated in the Format Menu; 10 million appears as 10,000,000.00 whereas in India we use the comma separator as 1,00,00,000.00. Is it possible to format numbers in the Indian style? Please suggest a solution.

A. Kumar

If a built-in number format doesn't display data the way you want, you can use the Custom category on the Number tab (Format menu, Cells command) to create a custom number format. Custom number formats use format codes that describe how you want to display a number, date, time, or text.

Here are the steps to follow to create a custom number format: 1. Select the cells you want to format. 2. On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab. 3. In the Category list, click a category, and then click a built-in format that resembles the one you want. 4. In the Category list, click Custom. 5. In the Type box, edit the number format codes to create the format you want.
