Cable Internet

How does cable Internet work?

Prince Nahar

Data can travel through telephone lines, cable lines and even power lines that come into your home. Cable lines allow more data to flow back and forth, thus giving you a better Internet experience. However, the initial costs of setting up the infrastructure are relatively high. As a user you will have to buy a cable modem.

Further, cable lines coming into your home today can only transfer data one way, that is, from the service provider to your TV. For Internet access, you will need a two-way capable line. The whole infrastructure will have to change. Service providers will typically try to pass on that cost across users. Otherwise, recurring costs can be similar, depending on how long you access the Net today.
