I have a Dell machine with Windows 95 and Office 97. The system specifications are 128 MB and 20 GB. Everytime I log on, I get two error messages: 1. Error regarding loadwc.exe which is a system file 2. Error regarding scanreg.vbs. Would it help if I delete these two files or will it create a problem with my system's operations?
Also, if I can't delete these files, how can I set right these errors? Is there any way I can reinstall these two files so that the error messages don't show at startup? Please suggest a solution.

The EXE ``updates'' subscriptions and sets up User profiles. You are probably getting the error because you have a damaged or incorrect version, particularly if you have ``upgraded.'' It loads via the startmenu and you can probably just run msconfig and uncheck it if you have no need for its features. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q176/9/60.ASP Do not delete this file
Regarding VBS, VBS.Stages is a rapidly spreading e-mail worm through MS-Outlook, MIRC and Pirch networks. The infected mail comes with an attachment, LIFE--STAGES.TXT.SHS, a scrap file. Opening the attachment launches the worm. It creates a file, SCANREG.VBS, under the Windows system directory and modifies registry at the following location: HKEY--LOCAL--MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\RunServices
It transfers the original REGEDIT.EXE file to the recylebin and renames it as REGEDIT.VXD. It also changes this file attribute as hidden. After this, the worm creates a file SOUND32B.DLL, which is a supplementary file in order to spread itself through the IRC channels. The worm also creates files with random names on all available drives.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SCANREG.VBS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VBASET.OLB C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSINFO16.TLB C:\RECYCLED\DBINDEX.VBS C:\RECYCLED\RCYCLDBN.DAT C:\RECYCLED\MSRCYCLD.DAT
The worm sends mails with the infected file as an attachment to the addresses found in the address book of MS-Outlook. It is capable of using any of the above mentioned applications at the same time. Please look up this link -- http://www.pspl.com/virus--info/worms/stagesa.htm.
