BHARTI Telesonic's move to offer inter-connectivity to telecom companies at sharp discounts vis-a-vis Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) seems to have left the private basic service operators in a cleft stick.

•  CommWorks tech centre in Bangalore
COMMWORKS Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of networking solutions provider, 3Com Corporation, is setting up a technology centre in Bangalore.

IBM Corporation, which was knocked off its supercomputing perch last month by Compaq (topping its muscle machine, ASCI White, with Terscale) is back on the perch again.

HIMACHAL Futuristic Communications Ltd (HFCL) has an exposure of over Rs 1,400 crore through its subsidiary, HFCL Trade Invest Ltd, as investments in equities and loan and advances, according to the companys annual report for 2000-01.

IT'S business as usual at Oracle. There are no signs of slowdown blues and the India growth plans are apace. Bullish on India, the corporation is expanding its India operations by acquiring additional space of about 50,000 sq.ft here and is set to compl ete its second facility at Bangalore.

•  Bunka Orient is GrapeCity now
NEW DELHI: Japanese software company, Bunk Orient Group, has said from January 1, 2002, it will be known as GrapeCity Inc. Subsequently, its Indian subsidiary will be re-christened as GrapeCity India, the company said in a statement here. GrapeCity India is setting up a software development facility in Noida with a capacity of 1,000 workstations. -- Our Bureau

The Union Minister of State for Communications, Mr Tapen Sikdar, making the first call to the Union Minister for Communications, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan, in New Delhi, during the launch of wireless in local loop (WLL) service covering the entire Calcutta Tel ephones Districts (CTD) in Kolkata on Tuesday.

•  Thirdware launches Hyperion Essbase

The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), Chennai, is introducing from January bar coding at its container freight station in Tondiarpet. To begin with, the bar coding will be for less than container load (LCL) cargo.
