12 weekly flights from India to Switzerland

MUMBAI, Oct. 30

SWISSAIR will operate a new winter timetable, offering 12 weekly flights from India to Switzerland.

``Since events on October 1, Swissair has reviewed the Indian flight operation and produced a revised timetable which ensures normal scheduled flights in the region,'' said a press release quoting Mr Hana Peter Doser, General Manager, Swissair India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives.

An agreement has been reached between the Swiss Government, banks and corporate sector investors in Switzerland to secure funding to ensure continuance of Swissair operations through to the end of the winter timetable period (March 31, 2002).

The terms of the agreement foresees the creation of a new Swiss airline built around Crossair and integration of a part of Swissair's long-haul fleet and routes to be launched next spring. The new Swiss airline is expected to continue to operate Swissair's current schedule to and from India after April 2002.

All Swissair tickets issued on or after October 5, 2001, will continue to be honoured even beyond March 2001 by the new company after it takes over the network.

Swissair will now operate an A330-200 aircraft into Mumbai instead of the MD 11 used previously.
