Hudco to take up AP water supply project
Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, Dec.3
THE long delayed Rs.875-crore Hyderabad water supply project will now take off with funding for this project tied up with Hudco pitching in with major chunk of the project cost.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrabau Naidu, said that the State Government had decided to provide Rs.200 crores over the next two years in addition to proposing to guarantee Rs.350 crores for the proposed bond float.
This project envisages laying a pipeline to carry 90 million gallons a day from the Madhava Reddy canal and of this in the first phase 45 million gallons per day will be pumped in three stages. In the subsequent phases, filtration capacity and pumping equipment is to be added to procure 90 millions gallons per day.
This scheme is expected to supplement the present water supply of 145 million gallons per day from four reservoirs__Singoor, Manjira, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. This new project has been initiated as there is huge demand supply gap.
Consequent to the Hudco funding, the Krishna water supply project has been given a workable approach with necessary funding in place.
Alongside this project, the State Government is expected to undertake a Rs.295 crore river Musi conservation project under the National River Action Plan. This is aimed at tackling the problem of pollution in River Musi and aims at intercepting and diverting the dry weather flows from storm water drains to six sewerage plants.
This conservation project is expected to divert untreated sewage directly flowing into Musi. The sewage plants will ensure that the water does not get polluted.
