Airlines withdraw cargo fuel surcharge

Our Bureau

CHENNAI, Dec. 14

POST Christmas, air shipments world-wide will cost less with airlines withdrawing the fuel surcharge on cargo. In India, British Airways World Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo have sent circulars to the trade saying that they would be withdrawing the fuel surcharge from late December.

The surcharge of $ 0.10 per kg was levied on cargo since November 2000. Airline sources said that the withdrawal of the fuel surcharge is a direct response to market demand and more importantly to the recent fall in fuel prices.
