MRF declares indefinite lockout at Chennai unit

Mahindra and Mahindra says it had no objections to its partner Renault tying up with the country’s largest two wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto, for its small car venture.

Dec. 4: Mr Rahul Bajaj and his cousins — Mr Shekhar Bajaj, Mr Madhur Bajaj, and Mr Niraj Bajaj — constituting a section of the promoter group in Bajaj Electricals, make an open offer to the public to acquire a 7 per cent stake in the company.

Dec. 5: Sun Pharma’s generic drugs business in the US receives a shot in the arm, after Novartis drops a patent infringement suit against it and Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc over its Alzheimers and dementia drug Exelon.

Grasim Industries Ltd divests its entire equity holding of 53.63 per cent in Shree Digvijay Cement Company Ltd to Cimentos De Portugal, SGPS, South Africa (Cimpor) through its subsidiary, Cimpor Inversiones, South Africa for Rs 322 crore.

Dec. 8: Bajaj Auto Ltd launches the gasoline direct injection engine version of autorickshaw.

Cipla is set to review its Rs 400-crore Special Economic Zone in Goa, after protests from local people halts work at the site.

Dec. 10: Eicher Motors Limited signs a Letter of Intent to form a separate joint venture for its commercial vehicles and components business with Swedish automotive giant AB Volvo.

Dec. 11: US-based hotel chain Orient-Express turns down, for the second time, a proposal from Indian Hotels Company Ltd for a strategic alliance.

Suzuki Motor Corporation says that the company will launch its compact car model from the country next year for the export and domestic markets. India will also see the debut of its global car, Splash.

Dec. 14: VSNL rechristened as Tata Communications

Godrej Sara Lee Ltd closing a $50-million (about Rs 200 crore) acquisition in China next month. The Chinese company is in the business of household insecticides.

Dec. 17: Videocon Industries Ltd says it plans to create separate verticals for its power, oil and natural resources businesses.

Dec. 19: IFCI unanimously decides to call off the process of inducting a “strategic investor” to whom a 26 per cent stake in the country’s oldest financial institution was to be offered through fresh issue of equity shares.

The boards of Kingfisher Airlines and Deccan Aviation decide to merge both the airlines. The name of the merged entity will most probably be Kingfisher Airlines.

Tata to unveil Rs 1 lakh car at Jan 10 Auto Expo

Dec. 20: Taj Hotels (Indian Hotels Company of Tata Group) has demanded an immediate apology from US-based Orient Express Hotels (OEH) for what it said was misinformation and libellous language contained in a recent letter by OEH President & CEO, Mr Paul White, turning town the Indian company’s request for alliance talks.

The Madras High Court suspends a single judge order that restrained TVS Motor Company Ltd from booking orders for its new motorcycle, Flame.

Dec. 26: Videocon Group has again bid for Daewoo Electronics, but this time without a financial partner.

Dec. 29: Kumars Nationwide Ltd demerges its retail business into Brandhouse Retails Ltd.
