Lankan ploy

Neha Kaushik

EVEN as Indian law makers struggle with keeping tabs - very often unsuccessfully - on surrogate advertising, neighbouring Sri Lanka seems to have found a solution to the problem. Every time an ad for a liquor brand is aired on television, it is automatically blipped away from the screen through a filtering mechanism. However, whether this is really effective or not can be judged from the fact that the per capita consumption of alcohol is much higher there than in India. Surely, some food for thought for the regulating authorities!
