The UEFA Championship constituting 24 teams recently concluded in France. The one-month event gathered significant TV viewership in India. It created a big buzz on social as well. GroupM’s Maxus MESH has collated some statistics on digital media mentions of the event where Portugal won the championship.

UEFA Euro 2016 got more than 500,000 mentions which was nearly eight times that of the recently held Copa America event.

While the day of finals between France and Portugal undoubtedly received the highest mentions, the quarter-final match between Germany and Italy received the second highest following from the Indian audience.

Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Euro Cup 2016 winner Portugal, was the all-time hero clocking the greatest number of mentions during the tournament. Zlatan Ibrahimovic came next. Mumbai andDelhi-NCR, in that order, were the top buzzing cities and contributed to approximately 50 per cent of the buzz around Euro Cup 2016. Official sponsors hardly had any social buzz with only Sony Network clocking 22,000 mentions.
