In an attempt to encourage ideas that impact the society at large and showcase the impact to the larger community, Marico Innovation Foundation has announced the final shortlists of its Innovation for India Awards, with eleven innovative organisations competing for the coveted awards.
Harsh Mariwala, Chairman, Marico and Founder of Marico Innovation Foundation noted, it is possible to create an eco system of sustainable innovation. Speaking about the awards, he added: ``There are thousands of innovative ideas that exist in every corner of this country and all it needs for these to come alive, is a conducive and encouraging platform that recognises and fosters their growth.''
The shortlisted entries comprise seven contenders competing in the business category - Zydex Industries, Titan Eye Care, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, Innoz Technologies, GIBSS, Amagi Labs and Reuters Market Light (RML). There are four contenders in the social sector- Nirantar Trust (Khabar Lahariya), Karadi Path, Agewell Foundation (Employment exchange) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Mariwala said that the entries were identified from applications that were received from diverse business houses, public sector undertakings and social organisations across the country.
As Ramesh Mashelkar, Chairman of the Marico Innovation Foundation noted, ``Innovation is all about completing the journey from `concept to commercialisation' or `concept to social good'. The awards recognise organisations that have undertaken this journey.''
Incidentally, the Foundation was formed in 2003, with the objective of fueling innovation in India. It aims to create an innovation eco system through cutting edge research, knowledge creation and dissemination, to scale up breakthrough innovations.
The entries for the fifth edition of IIA were shortlisted following a rigorous evaluation procedure that includes two rounds of scrutiny and external evaluation. The entries were evaluated on the basis of parameters like- uniqueness, sustainability and scalability. There were different juries for the Business and Social category.
The shortlisted entries have been chosen from about 435 applications and would be competing for the fifth edition of the awards, which are given biennially. The winners would be felicitated in Mumbai, and are to receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
