When most of the Bollywood movies are coming out with sequels, a mobile game developer from Udupi has come out with a sequel to its existing game based on a Bollywood movie.
The Udupi-based 99Games Online, a mobile game studio that specialises in making casual games for mobile phones and tablets, launched a sequel to its ‘Dhoom:3 The Game’ on Android, iOS, Windows phone platforms on Thursday.
Titled ‘ Dhoom:3 Jet Speed ’, this launch coincides with the television premiere of the Dhoom:3 movie on June 28.
Shilpa Bhat, Senior Producer at 99Games Online, told Business Line that Dhoom is a popular franchise and there are millions of Dhoom series fans. These fans are eager to consume new content around this franchise in which the superstar Aamir Khan played a key role.
“The movie is also getting premiered on television on June 28, and we felt it would be ideal to launch the game around this time,” she said.
‘Dhoom:3 Jet Speed’ is published by 99Games Online under a multi-year multi-title licence from Yash Raj Films Pvt Ltd, the producers of Dhoom series.
Rohith Bhat, Chief Executive Officer of 99Games Online Pvt Ltd, said: “This is the first time in the history of Bollywood games a sequel is being attempted. We have built an awesome game around this popular movie franchise. With ‘Dhoom:3 Jet Speed’, we hope to ride another wave of success, just like we had with ‘Dhoom:3 The Game’ ”.
Shilpa Bhat said that ‘Dhoom:3 The Game ’ saw over 12 million downloads worldwide after it was released last year. Asked about the sequel, she said: “Given that there is no major movie launch buzz, we are expecting at least half the download numbers of ‘Dhoom:3 The Game’.”
‘Dhoom:3 The Game’ was focused on a high speed bike race through the streets of Chicago. In ‘Dhoom:3 Jet Speed’ , the chase continues on the Chicago river.
She said the game has players donning the role of the ‘Dhoom:3’ movie protagonist Sahir (played by Aamir Khan) yet again, as he rides a supercharged Aqua Jet through the congested Chicago River. There are obstacles to avoid and ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali (Uday Chopra) leading them in the chase.
She said that the player can use a variety of power-ups to help evade and get the best score, but they must watch out for the health of the Aqua Jet. The game features water animation and graphics for a great gaming experience, she added.
