Power and automation technology group of ABB has won an order worth around $18 million from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to construct a 400 kilovolt (kV) gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) sub-station at Kolhapur in Maharashtra.
The new sub-station will help strengthen the inter-regional grid between the western and southern regions.
“This sub-station will boost power transmission to the southern region and increase the inter-regional transfer capacity,” Oleg Aleinikov, head of ABB’s Sub-stations business, a part of the company’s Power Systems division, said in a statement.
“ABB’s latest GIS technology will help reduce the sub-station’s footprint significantly, while ensuring efficiency and reliability,” he added.
The project scope includes design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning.
