To coincide with its 50th anniversary, power and automation firm ABB India Ltd, on Wednesday, inaugurated two new plants to manufacture power products. The facilities, at Savli, near Vadodara, were set up at an investment of Rs 250 crore.
The two facilities will manufacture high-voltage switchgear and distribution transformers, Bazmi Husain, MD, told reporters. Vadodara has the largest ABB base and facilities in India, spread over 150 acres.
Seventy-five per cent of ABB’s portfolio in India is locally manufactured and the company is the top supplier of inverters to the solar energy market.
The high-voltage unit will produce gas-insulated switchgear and plug-and-switch system hybrid switchgear to serve growing demand in India and also as an export hub. The new transformer factory will focus on production of dry-type and oil immersed distribution transformers.
Bernhard Jucker, Head, ABB Power Products Division, said India is the fifth biggest power generator.
