Amway India Enterprises Pvt Ltd is planning to introduce a special project to offer nutrition supplement to nearly 14 lakh malnourished children in the country.

According to William S Pinckney, MD and CEO, Amway India, as part of a global corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for emerging economies, the company has been working on developing a nutrition-based supplement for the last five years and the project will also be launched in India.

“We are working on a project to develop a supplement which will cater to children aged between 4 and 12 years,” Pinckney said here on Saturday evening.

He was speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of an event on importance of CSR initiatives organised jointly by Amway and industry body FICCI. A fashion show was also organised for the children of National Association for the Blind at the event.

Amway already has a vitamin and dietary supplement called “Nutrilite”.

Stating that the company has a strong network of 1.4 million distributors in India, he said: “If each of the distributor sponsors at least one child, then a lot of children will be covered. We also plan to talk to state governments and partner with them.”

Among its children-focused CSR initiatives across the country, the company has set up four computer centres for the visually challenged in the eastern region. It has also been working with nine orphanages in the East.

Pinckney, who is also the chairman of Amway Opportunity Foundation, said corporates in India would now come forward to actively take part in CSR activities, since the two per cent of profit has to go for CSR as per the new Companies Act, 2013.
