The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Monday approved the proposal of Petronet LNG to set up an LPG terminal at Gangavaram port near Visakhapatnam.

Announcing the development, the State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the Cabinet has approved the Petronet LNG proposal for setting up 5 mmtpa project, with a capacity to ramp it up to 10 mmtpa.

“The project is expected to generate ₹3085 crore through VAT for the State and also pave way for creation of many downstream industries.

While the project will take about four years to commission, we have called upon the developers to expedite it and complete it within three years,” he said.

Addressing a press conference after the Cabinet meeting here on Monday, he said that a similar nod was accorded to Shell LNG project in Kakinada.

The Cabinet has also approved the NTR Srujala Sravanthi programme, which seeks to provide 20 litres of drinking/mineral water in rural areas for ₹2.

This scheme is proposed to be linked with the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of the private sector, NGOs and self-help groups.

He said that the Government would shortly finalise the move to accord backward class status to the Kapu community.

Referring to the price stabilisation initiative in the farm sector, he said that it was proposed to strengthen the Rythu Bazaar network and also take up purchase of tomatoes and onions, whose prices have shot up recently.

Counselling issues

He wanted early counselling so that students do not move on to other States seeking admission.
