Regen Powertech has won an order worth Rs 468 crore from Torrent Power for the supply of windmills for 75 MW. The Chennai-based company manufactures wind power turbines under a licence from the German company Vensys. A notable feature of Regen's turbines is that they use permanent magnets and are gearless, which, according to Regen, makes the suitable for low wind sites also.

Mr Madhusudan Khemka, Managing Director, Regen Powertech, says that the company has orders on hand worth Rs 2,000 crore. The company expects to end the year 2011-12 with a turnover of Rs 2,500 crore, against Rs 1,250 crore in the previous year.

Regen Powertech, Mr Khemka said, focuses more on IPP customers, as opposed to those who purchase windmills for the purpose of availing themselves of tax breaks. The company's other major customers include Tata Power, Green Infra, Renew Power and TVS Energy.
