With the economy under continued stress, heavy vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland Ltd has recorded a 19 per cent drop in medium and heavy vehicle sales in January 2014 compared to the same month last year.

M&HCV sales fell to 5,530 units (6,863 vehicles).

LCV sales dropped 37 per cent to 2,317 units (3,698 vehicles). Total sales declined to 7,847 vehicles from 10,561 units, a fall of 26 per cent.

During April-January 2013-14, medium and high commercial vehicles sales fell 25 per cent to 47,048 units compared with 62,955 units during the same period last financial year. LCV sales were down 13 per cent at 24,093 units (27,591 units).

Total sales were down 21 per cent at 71,141 vehicles during April-January 2013-14 compared with 90,546 vehicles during the same period in the previous year.

Shares of Ashok Leyland were trading at Rs 16.25, a decline of 20 paise, on the BSE.
