Upcoming new petrochemicals industries and parks are set to boost the plastics industry in the eastern region. According to J.R. Shah, Chairman, National Executive Council, Plast India, upcoming units in Guwahati (Assam) and Paradip (Odisha), apart from the existing one in Haldia (West Bengal), are likely to boost the industry in the region. Plast India is an apex body of organisations and associations of the plastics industry. According to Shah, the per capita plastic consumption in the eastern region is around 2.8 kg compared with 8 kg, nationally.
