To mark the International Day of Action for Women’s Health on Thursday, Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd has pledged to make India an “anemia-free” nation.
Every second woman in Ahmedabad, the state’s financial capital, suffers from anemia, India’s largest privately-held pharmaceutical company said here.
Cadila Pharma organised free hemoglobin check-up camps and awareness programmes through audio-visual media and has, since 2013, registered over 900 clinics across India under this initiative. The company has two dedicated divisions, Evanext and Evapride, that focus on women’s health offering a range of products, Dr Rajiv Modi, Chairman and Managing Director, said.
As per the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3) of 2005-06, every second Indian woman is anaemic and one in every five maternal deaths is directly related to anaemia. In Gujarat also, 55.5%, of women are anaemic, in line with the national average. The risk of anaemia increases to 60.8 per cent% during pregnancy and it is as high as 79.8 per cent in children below 3 years of age. .
Earlier, as part of its policy to provide affordable health solutions, Cadila Pharma had launched innovative products like Polycap (five-in-one pill for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases), Risorine (for treatment of tuberculosis) and Mycidac-C, which is the world's first active immunotherapy in lung cancer, he added.
