Hospitality group Carlson Rezidor, which had announced the launch of its new brand Radisson RED in India last year, plans to open two properties under the brand.
“We launched the concept last year without any deals or developments signed and sealed,” said Thorsten Kirschke, President, Asia-Pacific, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.
The group has now signed 10 properties globally for the brand, out of which five are in Asia-Pacific. In India, two properties will come up in Mohali and New Gurgaon.
“One has been signed in Mohali and is being built. It will open in the last quarter of next year. The group is in advanced stages of discussion for signing another Radisson RED in New Gurgaon,” Raj Rana, CEO, South Asia, Carlson Rezidor, told BusinessLine .
The group is also looking at locations in metros as well as secondary towns, particularly in multi-use, where the brand would work well.
Radisson RED offers a differentiated guest experience, with lower construction and operating costs than traditional upscale hotels, due to a multi-functional approach to design and efficient space-planning, which in turn enables higher return from investor standpoint.
On whether the group has plans to bring its luxury brand Quorvus Collection to India, Kirschke said, “It is not a particular brand for India. It’s a global brand in a very high-end luxury segment. The brand is purely opportunistic, with very few handpicked heritage properties.”
While he did not rule out bringing the brand to India, he added, “We are currently not entertaining any concrete negotiations.”
Asian growth engineAsia-Pacific continues to be a driving growth engine for the group, Kirschke said, adding, “It is no secret that Europe is struggling. Our Eastern Europe portfolio is under pressure for various reasons of political nature. West Asia is a volatile market that goes quickly down but comes back up fast. Africa is a strong development market.”
Carlson Rezidor has 119 hotels in India, out of which 76 are operational at present.
Globally, the group operates brands such as Quorvus Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson, Radisson RED, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson and Country Inns & Suites by Carlson.
