Bathroom solutions provider Duravit India on Thursday opened Asia’s first design studio of the Germany-based multinational company and said more such showrooms will be opened in India soon.

Christened as Duravit Showcase India, the new exhibition was launched by Dr Frank Richter, CEO, at the production site of Duravit India Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Duravit AG, a Germany-based ceramic bathroom fittings manufacturer, at Tarapur, 120 km from Ahmedabad.

More such showrooms will be opened across India, officials said.

The studio showcases products of Duravit India, which currently manufactures two lakh pieces at its factory having a capacity to produce five lakh pieces annually, Asutosh Shah, Managing Director, said. The capacity is scalable to manufacture 10 lakh pieces, he said.

“We offer the ideal solution for different budgets and lifestyles,” he added.

Duravit had signed an MoU with the State Government during the Vibrant Gujarat event of January 2007 and inaugurated the factory, set up at an investment of Rs 120 crore, in September 2010.

Shah said the company is currently transporting about 25% of its products to the Germany-based central warehouses for global marketing.

In calendar year 2013, Duravit India’s turnover was Rs 85 crore. “Due to the economic slowdown and market conditions, our project had got delayed and orders came late.”

While Duravit AG’s global business is currently growing at 7 to 8% per annum that of Duravit India has witnessed a year-on-year growth of 20-25%.

The Tarapur facility is Duravit AG’s first plant in India and 10{+t}{+h} globally. The company designs all its products in Germany.

Duravit India currently supplies ceramic bathroom fittings to major Indian realty and hospitality companies. It employs over 300 workers at Tarapur.

Duravit operates with 35 affiliated companies worldwide and is present in more than 120 countries. Manufacturing takes place in Germany, Egypt, China, France, Tunisia and Turkey as well as in India
